The key is choosing the right one to support skin recovery and rejuvenation and stimulate cellular renewal.  Read our latest BLOG for everything you need to know about perfect menopausal day to night regime.

Do I Really Need A Night Cream?

It’s a question that we get asked a lot.  The short answer if it’s glowing, healthy, radiant looking skin you are after – is yes.  In menopause, you need a good night cream formulated with active ingredients to support cellular renewal overnight.

It's when your skin works to restore and repair which is why night creams contain ingredients to support skin recovery and rejuvenation.   A good day to night routine is essential for great looking skin in menopause.

What is the Difference Between Day & Night Cream?

There is a big difference between day and night cream and, if you are serious about taking good care of your skin in menopause, you need to be using both in your skincare regime.

Day creams are designed to be used in the morning and provide lasting hydration, nourishment and protection during the day.  A good day cream should be formulated with antioxidants to protect skin against the environmental stressors like sunlight, pollution, UV filters.  It should contain skin nourishing moisturising ingredients like glycerin, natural butters and hyaluronic acid.  In menopause, our skin our skin barrier starts to weaken and lose its ability to hold onto moisturiser so really good antioxidant protection and a deeply replenishing day moisturiser are more important than ever.

Night Creams are designed to be used only at night to support skin’s cellular renewal process.  They should contain a higher level of active ingredients like retinol which is proven to stimulate cell renewal and collagen production.  Retinol isn’t added to day creams because it is photosensitising ie. it makes skin more sensitive to sunlight.

If you don’t use a night cream your skin won’t get the full benefit of collagen boosting and deeply moisturising ingredients which you really need in menopause.  As we go through menopause, collagen levels decline by 30% in the first 5 years so actively boosting skin collagen levels with the right ingredients is key if you want healthy great looking skin.

How to choose the best day and night cream for menopausal skin?

Your day and night cream should complement each other and work together to give your skin everything it needs in an effective AM/PM routine for round the clock results.  In menopause, it’s all about balance.  To get the best results, we need powerful actives that will make a real difference to skin combined with skin nourishing, hydrating ingredients to restore and replenish.  Look for multi-benefit products that tackle multiple skin concerns at the same time – you don’t need multiple products and a complicated regime.  Keep it simple to avoid overloading your skin which can be a recipe for inflammation, sensitivity and breakouts.
